2- How can I delete a plan? back to top

Go to the screen where your plans are listed
- Select the plan you want to delete;
- Scroll down and tap the 'Delete' button.

3- Why is my address incorrect? back to top

To locate your property, MagicPlan uses the GPS geolocalisation available within your iPhone 4 or iPad 2. This geolocalisation may not be precise enough to locate properly your property. The iPod Touch does not offer geolocalisation and therefore MagicPlan is not able to identify your address. You will have to enter manually your address.

For more details see question 6- How can I change the name or the address of my plan?

Capturing a room

8- How do I capture a room? back to top

To create a complete floor plan, you need to capture each room. In order to capture a room, you need to capture every corners of the room. Position yourself in the room so that you can see a maximum number of corners. Invisible corners are more difficult to capture.
As you capture each corner, it is essential to remain in one place and turn yourself around without moving about.
It is recommended to hold your device with 2 hands and to keep your elbows close to your body.

To capture a corner, aim at the corner using the green pointer. You need to position the pointer at the crossroad of walls and floor and then press the corner icon on the right of the screen.

Green axis and a grid may help you aim at corners. Precisely aligning the green axis to the borders of the floor is not necesary.

Captured corners are visualized by cones and the floor borders with a doted line.

You can capture doors by aiming at the 2 corners where the door meets the floor and by using the door button on the left.

If you do not like a specific capture, press ‘undo’, and capture again.
When all corners have been captured, capture the first corner again and press ‘done’.

You will become familiar with MagicPlan after capturing 3 or 4 rooms. Your average capture time will then be 30 seconds per room.

9- What are the orange cones that appear when I capture a room? back to top

When you capture a corner, it is visualized via an orange cone. The cones help you understand where you are in your capture: which corners have to be captured, which ones have already been captured, which captures are not correct, etc. The first corner is also identified in order to help you close your capture: you have to re-capture the first corner to complete a capture.

10- What are the white doted lines that appear when I capture a room? back to top

The white doted lines visualize the borders of the floor. It helps you understand where you are in your capture, as well as identify the mistakes you may make.

11- How can I capture a door? back to top

a) To capture a door, you just need to capture the start and end points of this door.
- Aim at the start point of the door on the floor;
- Tap the door capture icon ;
- Aim at the end point of the door on the floor;
- Tap the door capture icon ;

b) You can add doors after capturing your room. (for more information, please refer to 26- How can I add a door or a window?)

c) If the door has been captured in an adjacent room, it will automatically be added to your room when assembling rooms.

12- How can I capture a room when I cannot see all its corners? back to top

You do not need to see all the corners of a room to capture it. To capture an invisible corner, you can approximate its position as if it was visible and tap the 'Corner' button .

A green grid can help you better aim at the corner, especially when it is not visible. Making sure the grid is aligned with the floor borders is not necessary to capture a corner. It is just meant to help you find the point to capture. The gyroscope is sometimes unstable, forbiding perfect alignment. Once again the corner to capture is the only thing that matters.

As invisible corners are more difficult to capture, we recommend to position yourself in the room so that you can see the maximum number of corners.

13- Can I capture a circular wall? back to top

A circular wall has no corners. We recommend to approximate the circular wall by a succession of straight lines. You can capture the wall as if it had corners, like for example a wall with 3 portions.

14- What can I do when I did not properly capture a corner? back to top

If you did not properly capture a corner, just tap the 'Undo' button. The cone that marks the corner is removed and you can capture the corner again.

15- Do I need to capture all the rooms? back to top

You do not need to capture all the rooms of your property.
You can draw a room starting with a square room and adding corners, moving walls, etc. This approach is particularly recommended for large rooms (> 1,500 ft2)
You can also add filler rooms, i.e. rooms that automatically fill the space left in-between rooms. We recommend this approach for rooms such as corridors, toilets or cupboards.

For more details see question 70- What is the filler room ?

16- Why not aim at the corners of the ceiling? back to top

Ceiling corners are more visible but:
- Ceilings corners do not always intersect with room walls (presence of ventilation ducts or staircases, cathedral ceilings, attic roofs)
- Doors and openings rarely make it all the way to the ceiling and would become more complex to capture.
- Ceilings may not be as flat as floors.
- Our algorithms yield more consistent results when measuring floors.
- In many rooms, such as kitchens and bathrooms, ceiling corners are not visible due to the presence of furniture, showers, or cabinets.
Nevertheless, Sensopia is still working to enable ceiling measurements in addition to floor measurements in the future.

Measuring a room

17- What is the precision of MagicPlan? back to top

Precision is deeply related to how well you have followed the instructions. MagicPlan precision should be at least 6 inches, i.e. for a 10 ft. wall, MagicPlan should return a measure between 9 ft. 9 inches and 10 ft. 3 inches. In order to get accurate measures, you have to follow the rules below:
- When capturing a room, remain at the same place and just turn yourself around. Do not walk in the room while capturing it;
- Ensure that the way you are holding your device is consistent. Do not change the way you hold your device.
- Ensure that you have properly calibrated MagicPlan;
- Aim at each corner of the room with a reasonable precision.

18- My measures are not correct, what can I do? back to top

Your measures should have an error margin of maximum 6 inches. For a 10 ft. wall, MagicPlan should return a measure between 9 ft. 9 inches and 10 ft. 3 inches. If your measures are not correct, please ensure that:
- When capturing a room, you must remain at the same place and just turn yourself around. Do not walk in the room while capturing it;
- Ensure that the way you are holding your device is consistent. Do not change the way you hold your device.

55- What is the DXF format? back to top

AutoCAD dxf (Drawing Interchange Format, or Drawing Exchange Format) is a CAD data file format developed by Autodesk for enabling data interoperability between AutoCAD and other programs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AutoCAD_DXF).
It is certainly the most popular interchange format and is supported by a wide variety of applications including Autodesk tools (Inventor, Revit, 3DSMax, ...) but also Google SketchUp pro, Dassault eDrawing and even OpenOffice Impress.
MagicPlan generates an AutoCAD 2012 version of the DXF specification.
Currently, each floor of your plan generates a separate DXF file.
The DXF model of each floor is split in 5 layers to facilitate element selection:
- Wall layer: this layer gathers all the walls and pillars. The walls are polylines of 15cm width when possible to guarantee the best visualization and allow easier selection;
- Door layer: this layer gathers all the doors. Each door is a separate block of DXF entities;
- Window layer: this layer gathers all the windows. Each window is a separate block of DXF entities;
- Furniture layer: this layer gathers all the furniture. Each furniture is a separate block of DXF entities;
- Text Layer: this layer contains all the text (currently the names of the rooms).

You can visit our Gallery section on our web site to download an example of DXF file.

For more details see question 56- What is the interest of the DXF?

56- What is the interest of the DXF? back to top

The DXF format is an export format that allows you to use your plan in CAD software such as Autocad or SketchUp.
You may want, for example, to import your plan into SketchUp in order to generate a 3D model of your house.

You can visit our Gallery section on our web site to download an example of DXF file.

For more details see question 55- What is the DXF format?

63- Is MagicPlan available on Android? back to top

No.

64- How does MagicPlan affect the battery consumption? back to top

MagicPlan has been optimized to minimize its energy consumption. However, MagicPlan is based on a complex technology leveraging a lot of your device sensors and thus consuming more energy than a music player for example.

65- Am I going to transfer a lot of data via the mobile network? back to top

MagicPlan uses the mobile network when:
- you export;
- you create an account;
- to geolocalize your property when you create a new plan.

MagicPlan does not use the network to create a plan, capture a room, modify a room or assemble rooms.
The pictures are the heaviest elements of your plan, so the more pictures you have, the more data you will transfer. We recommend to export your homebook when you are connected on a wifi network.

66- How do you protect my personnal information? back to top

Your privacy is important to Sensopia Inc. For more information, please refer to our privacy policy on our web site.

74- What does the symbol mean? back to top

When you assemble rooms, some walls might look snapped while they are not: a small space that you cannot see is left in between the 2 walls that should be snapped. The icon helps you identify which walls may appear snapped but are not. You can then correct this alignement by moving a little your room.
